Sentinel demo at Philly Tech Meetup tonight!

We are coming to Philly Tech Meetup tonight to present Sentinel, which is one week away from the start of our first public beta!

Its been a crazy few weeks getting everything ready for primetime, and we've accomplished a tremendous amount - getting Sentinel into the cloud, automatic installation and update infrastructure, completing our new Azure blob based data storage and query engine, and a whole lot of other last minute features.

We are super excited to show this off tonight.  If you are coming to the meetup, we'll see you there!

Otherwise, learn more about the beta at leanserver.com/sentinel.  We'll be sending more information to people who signed up already shortly.

LeanServer Sentinel: Montor, analyze, and instantly diagnose web application performance

Sentinel beta now open: Explore, Analyze, and Instantly Diagnose your production web applications!

The Sentinel beta is now open!

If you are developing, hosting, or maintaining an ASP.NET web application on the Windows Server platform, you'll definitely want to check it out.

leanserver.com/sentinel

The beta will for the first time make available our instant diagnosis features, which help identify the root cause of top applications problems - like server resource overload, application errors, and slowdowns/hangs.

URL latency, ASP.NET exceptions, CPU usage, and hundreds more metrics that you really care about!

With this beta, we are for the first time making Sentinel available as a service, making it possible to start monitoring and diagnosing performance and health problems in your web application in minutes.

Get started in minutes

We cannot support a large number of users yet, so space in the beta is limited.  If you are interested, want to learn more, or want to be notified when we release, get in touch with us at leanserver.com/sentinel.

We are super excited to finally make this a reality.  We think Sentinel is going to revolutionize how IT and application developers work - spending less time tracking down and investigating hard-to-reproduce production problems, and spending more of it building the features and insuring an excellent application experience for their users.

Get started in minutes and watch your application data in real-time

New LeanServer.com and the LeanServer Lab

Since inception, LeanServer’s vision has been to unlock the performance potential of the Microsoft web platform for large scale ASP.NET and IIS applications.

We are good at what we do.  Since two years ago, we’ve worked with some of the largest web sites in the world to create efficient application infrastructures that perform well and scale to hundreds of thousands of users.  However, our biggest challenge has been to scale ourselves – and to be able to make an impact with more people who want to build efficient web applications.

Our plan - to package our approaches into tools that others can use to solve the big problems.

We blogged about this a year ago in Tools for a leaner web.  Since then, we’ve built a number of tools that our clients use today to scale ASP.NET applications, monitor production performance, and perform efficient load testing.

Today, we are launching the new leanserver.com

One of the main features on our new site is the LeanServer Lab.  Through the Lab, we are making available all of the tools and frameworks that we have built for our clients, with many more scheduled to come this year.

Our partners get access to all of our tools, and participate in beta testing of any new technologies we are building.  This way, they benefit from these technologies early and we benefit from the real-world feedback that is critical in shaping our tools.

Are you running an enterprise application on the Microsoft platform? We’d love to partner with you to help your web infrastructure be the best it can be.  Let us know what you are doing, and how our technology can help.

Tackling Very Large Web Uploads, ScaleUP Performance Videos, and More

It’s been an exciting couple months at LeanServer! We’ve grown, completed several high profile betas, and released a new product.

Our newly released product is the Reliable Transfer Client – a cross-browser plugin that brings a premium upload experience to any ASP.NET application.  The client addresses the many client-side issues with uploads, especially for really large files, including things like:

  • Support for very large file uploads from any browser (5Gb, 10Gb, 20Gb, etc)
  • Fault-tolerance to connectivity and server errors during upload
  • Ability to resume uploads at a later time

We originally developed the client for a number of high profile media sites that wanted to have complete control of the upload look and feel, so we made it completely transparent and driven by javascript.  You can see more here:

http://www.leanserver.com/scaleup

We’ve also recently done a few videos to showcase the performance and scalability features of the ScaleUP platform, which you can see here:

With the Reliable Transfer Client in the browser and ScaleUP on the server, we are able to turn any ASP.NET application into an upload powerhouse.

Uploads definitely pose a number of interesting scalability problems, which have been fun to work on.  We are shortly releasing an enterprise storage pack for ScaleUP, which provides advanced storage and processing features that high traffic environments can use to process and distribute uploads efficiently.

We’ve also been making great progress with several other performance technologies, which should become available for beta shortly. Stay tuned!

Tools for a leaner web

Over the past two years, LeanServer has lent its platform expertise to some of the largest web sites in the world, helping them scale, improve performance, and cut operating costs with the Windows Server platform.

After years of designing the core of IIS 7.0 and ASP.NET 2.0 technologies, it has been very satisfying to see the impact that these technologies can have when coupled with correct application architecture, best practices, and well placed performance technologies. However, we have also been consistently reminded of how complex this is to consistently achieve in practice – given the multitude of different requirements, application designs, and deployment configurations.

If some of the largest web companies with dedicated developer teams need so much help to get there, what can everyone else expect?

To help us make a broader impact, we’ve shifted our focus to distilling our platform expertise into a set of tools and techniques that everyone can leverage to accelerate performance and scalability of their web applications. In the past year, LeanServer has beta-tested a number of such technologies with leading web sites like myspace.com and vevo.com – and we’ll be looking to make them available to a larger set of customers over the next months.

Today, it makes me very happy to announce our first web release, LeanServer ScaleUP. ScaleUP provides unparalleled performance, reliability, and scalability for web uploads, enabling social networking and media sites to finally solve the tough HTTP upload challenges.  If your ASP.NET, ASP, or PHP application handles uploads, be sure to check it at www.leanserver.com/scaleup.

You can also read more about ScaleUP and the history of upload challenges that motivated us to build it on my blog.

With this release and others that are coming, we are very excited to do our part in helping make the web a leaner, greener place. As always, if you want to make your web application more efficient or have a tough scalability challenge on the Microsoft web platform, get in touch and we may be able to help.
